Evan Zhu Week 6 Event 2

May 13, 2018

I attended the Maru Garcia’s “Vivarium: A Place of Life” at the CNSI gallery. I found this event especially intriguing because of the way that it was able to combine art and nature into one item which I thought was unconventional. The event this week ties in very well with the reading for the week which is BioArt. “BioArt is an art practice where humans work with live tissues, bacteria, living organisms, and life processes.” (BioArt Wikipedia). BioArt is a very controversial subject. Professor Vesna says that it is very controversial because it created hybrids of species and includes a lot of lab work. (Vesna).

I personally enjoyed the fact that the art was so closely intertwined with nature which is something that I am new to. This was the first time that I really experienced something like this which was really eye opening. I never thought about nature playing such a huge role in a piece of art which was created by a human.
